1977! Peter-Werner Landry takes over a small bakery in Kaiserslautern. He starts with just four employees and produces baked goods for resellers. The bakery is called “Pfalzbrot” back then. The name is changed into “Barbarossa Bäckerei” in 1994. Nowadays it is a successful company that is an important economic factor in the region Pfalz/Saar.
The company took over several shops in “real”-supermarkets and carried them on as own shops. 1990 was the year of the legendary “Urbrot”. The bread turned into a symbol for the uniqueness and quality of the bakery’s products. Own cafés and “coffee-stops” were opened in the Pfalz/Saar region. Constant expansion necessitated a bigger production plant. In 2004 the Barbarossa Bakery moved into their new headquarters in the industrial area “IG-Nord” in Kaiserslautern. Production, logistics and administration are now united in one modern facility.
Barbarossa Bakery’s over 40-year-old history is characterized by the constant ambition to create baked goods of the highest quality and freshness. In 1979 Rolf Landry, the founder’s son, joined the company. By then the delivery transaction had already grown. The first “highlight”-product, a baguette, conquered the market. The bakery managed to be the sole deliverer to many resellers. In 1985 the first shops were opened in Kaiserslautern. A second production facility in Heusweiler/Saarland was necessary.
Another gastronomical concept was created in 2007. The „PANEO pizza, pasta & pane“ opened in Kaiserslautern in 2007. In 2016 another similar restaurant/bakery launched in Ludwigshafen. Today the bakery chain has over 70 shops in the Pfalz and Saarland. About 850 employees work in production, sales, logistics and administration. We produce about 150 different products: bread, rolls, pastries, cakes and sandwiches. The blue and yellow “Barbarossa”-logo stands for delicious baked goods and cozy, stylish cafés.
